This is work in progress. I am not where I want to be, but I believe I am on the right track.

Haiti – god’s littlest angels orphanage evacuation

On our final day, Oregonian reporter Kimberly Wilson and I made a trip to the mountains outside Port-au-Prince, Haiti. It was here we met up with Joe Wilkins of Beaverton, Oregon who was in the middle of the adoption process when the earthquake struck Haiti. God’s Littlest Angels orphanage was in the middle of evacuation [...]

Civil War

Civil War

Joined the other Oregonian photographers for my first and only college football game of the season. I sure picked a good one to photograph. The winner of the Civil War was awarded an invitation to the Rose Bowl. The game went back and forth. Hands down, the best football game I have worked. I started [...]

Wild West Relay

Wild West Relay

Professional friends — skip this post if you don’t want to see a cheesy slideshow of my vacation trip this summer … it’s for my teammates. I am not a runner and I don’t really like running. With that said, here is a slideshow of pictures taken by myself and some of my teammates during [...]

3 Course Challenge

3 Course Challenge

As the x-country runners headed down Tank Hill Road, they could see something drastic had changed. A water truck had dropped more than 6,000 gallons of water across the trail. There was only one way through for the 2,340 finishers from 95 high schools. Although mostly unsuccessful, the runners used every possible technique as they [...]

Burnt River Bulls

Burnt River Bulls

This is the first installment of a new photo column that fellow Oregonian photographer Jamie Francis and I will be producing. We will travel to the far corners of the state and hopefully show the culture of football around the different regions. This first one is going to be difficult to beat. What a great [...]

Brandon Jr. steals the show

CLICK IMAGE FOR SLIDESHOW Brandon Roy Jr. stole the show at today’s press conference for the contract extension for Portland Trail Blazer guard Brandon Roy. I’m guessing we will see a lot of BJ in the years to come as Brandon seems to enjoy exposing his children to the professional side of his life.

Canon MKIII and baseball

CLICK IMAGE FOR SLIDESHOW Michael Gurley, a Canon camera representative in Seattle has given me a Canon MkIII to test for the next few weeks. When the MkIII was first launched, there were quite a few bodies that were released with problems in the focusing system. Canon thinks they have fixed it and were looking [...]

Baseball and allergies

Baseball and allergies

It’s that time of the year again. Two of my least favorite things come following basketball season … allergies and baseball. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the sport and love sitting in the stands drinking a beer and eating peanuts. Photographing baseball though? Ugh. Between sneezes (allergies), I shot this outfielder’s catch. It was [...]

Playoffs Game 6

CLICK IMAGE FOR SLIDESHOW The Portland Trail Blazers ended their season after loosing game 6 in Houston Thursday night. Although it would have been great to see a game seven, I am looking forward to the summertime in Portland. Anyone that has spent a summer there knows what I am talking about. While having post-game [...]

Ladd Tower explained

[qt:http://www.bruceely.com/ladd/ladd-ras.mp4 http://www.bruceely.com/ladd/ladd-ras-poster.mov 800 450] Randy Rasmussen, a co-worker at the Oregonian, put together this video about the production of the Ladd Tower Project. He took this on as a way to learn how to do video himself. He did a great job of editing my rambling interview with him into something that makes sense. The [...]

Mutombo’s ending

Mutombo’s ending

CLICK IMAGE FOR SLIDESHOW The Blazers pulled off a win tonight at the Rose Garden in Portland, but the NBA lost one of it’s most respectable players. Houston’s Dikembe Mutombo injured his knee and it will likely end his 18-year NBA career. His injury came midway through his 1,297th game.
